| Boulder: Impeach Bush?
This does not promote individual freedoms. I wish the Left would quit promoting a socialist/welfare state, this only leads to a collapse like the U.S.S.R. in the 80's.I don't want to be standing in lines for bread and milk for 8 hours like they did back then. .
D.C. Associate Bonuses 'Fairly Healthy' This Year
It's associate bonus season for many Washington, D.C., law firms, and the numbers are trickling in. As bonus data have accrued, Legal Times has been compiling the information for the D.C. offices of several firms. The list is not complete: Some firms wouldn't disclose or haven't yet announced bonuses. But the picture is certainly becoming clearer. At a few firms, D.C. associates may be getting an extra check that will top $100,000. Nevertheless, firms may be moving cautiously on the bonus front because of economic uncertainty -- and that may extend to end-of-year bonuses in 2008, as well. For 2007, "I would expect bonuses to be fairly healthy," says John Childers, a legal consultant at Hildebrandt International. But he adds, "We are hearing from our clients that this year isn't going to be as good as the last six years." Ward Bower, a consultant with Altman Weil in the Newtown Square, Pa., office, thinks it's too soon to tell if the 2008 bonuses will be on the slim side.
Good Question: What's Going To Happen To 401(k)s?
When it comes to my 401(k), give me three things I should be thinking about today," asked WCCO-TV's Dennis Douda. "Long term ... diversification ... pro-active management," said Helmer. Being diversified is about balancing the biggest potential payoffs with the amount of risk people can afford to take. "A good portfolio should have stocks and other non-stock investments, like bonds and real estate. But, within stocks there's many sub-categories," said Helmer. In general, the older we are, the less we should be invested in riskier stocks. "Right now we're going through a period of time where people are trepidatious, very nervous but I think it's going to be short-lived," said Helmer. Helmer thinks the nation is definitely entering a recession but because 401(k)'s can buy stocks at a discount, he says it's still a good time to build retirement funds.
NY calorie rule applies to cocktails
Put down that margarita, and back away from the bar. A new city regulation that requires chain restaurants to display calorie information also covers cocktails, sodas and other beverages that appear on menus. "Drinks are almost the forgotten calories," said Cathy Nonas, director of physical activity and nutrition programs for the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. "It's almost a side thought to the meal." The city Board of Health voted unanimously last month to approve the regulation, a new version of a law that had been struck down by a judge last year. The law, scheduled to go into effect on March 31, applies to restaurants with more than 15 outlets across the country. That includes fast-food places such as McDonald's and sit-down chains such as Olive Garden and T.G.I.

Director Joe Wright's adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with Knightley proved he can do the literary English costume piece in a faithful but not stuffy, handsome but not coffee-table-tome beautiful, emotionally vivid without straining for a modern sensibility way. He and scenarist Christopher Hampton have a trickier time with this novel, however; those who haven't read the book may appreciate their mostly on-the-mark, sometimes-off effort, being engrossed by narrative turns that readers will already know. The casting is fine, and some scenes (often the simplest ones) are memorably good; but there are also moments that cave to schmaltz and stylistic excess (one cast-of-thousands Steadicam shot goes on forever simply to prove it can). There's also an irritatingly gimmicky, intrusive score. Overall, Atonement is worthwhile but that deathless phrase "the book was better" duly applies.
McCain, Clinton look to next White House battle
Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, won a Republican race in Nevada that his rivals largely skipped in order to concentrate on South Carolina. No candidate in either party has claimed the front-runner's role in the race to pick the two candidates to contest the November 4 election to succeed Bush, as the first major state-by-state battles produced multiple winners. The US presidential nominating battle now turns to the deep South, where the next fights will be South Carolina's Democratic primary on Saturday and Florida's Republican primary on January 29. Then both parties turn their attention to the February 5 "Super Tuesday" round of 22 state contests, a massive shift from the intimate politics of early voting states to coast-to-coast flights and big-budget advertising campaigns.

EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) -- The search for a missing college student who led a secret life as an Internet porn performer turned into a homicide case after her body was apparently found. Authorities said the preliminary physical description of the body found Thursday about 50 miles east of El Dorado matches that of Emily Sander, who was last seen leaving a bar here a week ago with a man who stayed in a motel room where police found large quantities of blood. Investigators refused to give details about the state of the body or how it was found. Police Chief Tom Boren said the cause of death was not yet known. An autopsy was planned for Friday. Sander's case drew wide attention after it was revealed that she appeared on a popular adult Web site under the name Zoey Zane.
Doctors' wheezy answer: Cut mold
Asthma specialists want the city to crack down on mold and other housing code violations that are triggers for the disease. Forty doctors wrote to Mayor Bloomberg, Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden and Housing Commissioner Shaun Donovan asking for stricter enforcement of mold removal. They also want pest infestations reclassified from "hazardous" to "immediately hazardous." They say housing code violations for mold, which contributes to asthma, have doubled in the past two years. "The vast majority of our asthma patients - at least 80% - live in apartments rife with asthma triggers," said Dr. Bob Morrow of Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. Hospitalization rates for kids in "Asthma Alley" - North Brooklyn, East Harlem and the South Bronx - are more than 10 times higher than the rest of the city, the doctors say.
